This year the leading edge of the baby boomer generation will turn 74.  Behind them comes a tsunami of seniors, making the 55+ demographic the fastest growing segment of the US population, and per capita, the wealthiest.  Unlike their parents, as this group becomes seniors they are more enlightened about their health and wellness options, expects to live well and be active as they age, and strongly prefer convenient and customized options.

 

Yet the housing and senior care options remain stuck in the 1960’s.  In an age of Starbucks, Facebook and the iPhone, aging boomers must still largely put up with their father’s Oldsmobile of products in senior care and senior communities.  Instead of customized care options they receive inconvenient and mass produced care still more focused on sickness than wellness, assisted living that provides too little assistance and removes too much independence, and nursing homes based on a model invented in the 1930’s. 

 

Consequently boomers are facing advancing age with the prospect of living isolated in communities and cared for by a “health” system neither of which are designed with their wellness and convenience in mind.  And as they begin to get sick, they know they will be forced into a horrible choice between staying at home in isolation and risk, or entering an institution where they will feel alienated, inadequately catered to, and alone. 

 

There is therefore a huge pent-up demand and a great deal of wealth ready to pay for a better, more convenient, more enlightened way to age.   We are creating LifeSpring Resorts to fulfill this demand.
